This afternoon, we invited Big B and little b's friends over for an Easter egg decorating party. The colors, the mess, and the happy chaos were reminiscent of the Christmas cookie party we held a few months ago, complete with a cool nip in the air. I was really impressed with all of the different techniques the kids, and the parents, brought to our table.We tested our newly discovered bubble wrap painting method on the eggs, and I think it worked out beautifully; those who tried it really enjoyed it.
Many eggs were simply painted, using either acrylic paint, dye, or a combination of both.
Big B and I experimented with rolling an egg in acrylic paint on a foil-covered cookie sheet. 
One of my favorite strategies was the paint-dipped-toothbrush, used to spray dyed eggs for a natural, speckled finish. 
Some decorators used wax crayons in light colors to draw or write on their eggs, watching as the wax resisted the water-based dye. We also experimented with masking taped stripes on the eggs before dyeing them. In addition to the traditional dissolved tablet and vinegar mixture, friends brought other colorants, including all natural concoctions from the natural nester. 
The variety of methods and colors and hands that combined to create these eggs made for a beautiful collection, and a beautiful afternoon. Easter is all about renewal of the spirit, right? What better way to celebrate that renewal than by gathering with friends in the name of creativity and play.
