I've long been on the hunt for the perfect set of fabric drawers. My sewing desk is a ridiculous display, and my two meager drawers are crammed with piles of scraps in no relevant order. My sewing basket is a tangled mess of embroidery thread, buttons, zippers, elastic, you name it. My batting and other oversized material is in two tacky plastic bins next to my desk. Is this a space that fosters creativity? I think not.
So when I found this oak jewelry chest at a yard sale today for $10, I quickly scooped it up. The first three drawers will be perfect for notions, the last six for fabric, and the two large drawers in my desk can hold the batting, etc. I'd like to find new knobs and spruce up the lid a bit, but other than that it's in great condition. My sewing space makeover will not lack inspiration; these three posts linger in the back of my mind as I begin this endeavor.Today's yard sale adventure was a success all the way around. I found an old Operation game in great condition, and have already played a round with Big B (he's good). Little b scored three little-b-sized shovels, perfect for his love of scooping. And both of them are enjoying playing with a few non-commercial action figures I stumbled upon. (I found a special gift for Papa too, but I'll have to keep quiet about that for a few days.)
Starting the weekend off with a yard sale expedition seems to refresh us all. Each of us finds a personal treasure that just seems to fit. We have begun the day in the spring sunshine. We meet people in our community that have stories to tell about their wares, and nostalgic smiles when they see them go. We'll be hosting a yard sale in a few weeks; I look forward to passing our own storied things into the perfect hands.
