Finished: Stacked Coins Doll Quilt

I finished the doll quilt in practice for the Coin Quilt Piece-Along this morning during little b's nap. Big B and little b have already been busy putting several friends and babies down for snuggles and night-nights. It also made a perfect lap quilt for quiet time after school today. LESSONS LEARNED (this was, after all, a practice quilt):

1. Binding, binding, binding
. Pre-folded bias tape works in a pinch, but I'd really like to increase my repertoire with some nice, custom fabrics. I've never made my own and I think it's time to step it up a notch.

2. As much as I love free-motion stippling, I'd also like to branch out a bit and try something new. I'm going to look into some other methods of quilting that are still improvisational but a bit more fresh (to me, at least).

3. This is the first quilt I've made entirely from scraps. The best part about such a quilt is that I can look at each fabric and remember the original purpose for which it was purchased. There are fabrics in this quilt from baby quilts I've made for my own and other children, from skirts for nieces and scarves for sisters, from Christmas stockings, and from an African-inspired quilt I made for my mother. Now I understand you stashbusters. It's a way to reduce clutter and collect pieces of your past with one fresh new design. I can see a LOT more of this in my future.

Beautiful! My girls would flip for a quilt like that for their babies. Lucky, lucky boys.

I LOVE the "lap quilt" photo!
